نجحت الأجهزة الأمنية بشمال سيناء في الكشف عن هوية قائد التنظيم الإرهابي المُتطرف المسئول عن جميع الأحداث الإرهابية بسيناء بعد الثورة؛ والتي كان آخرها اشتباكات قسم ثان العريش التي راح ضحيتها 6 أشخاص بينهم شهيدين من الشرطة والجيش
وقد قامت الأجهزة الأمنية، المتمثلة في القوات المسلحة والشرطة بشمال سيناء، بجهود مكثفة للكشف عن أفراد التنظيم المتطرف الذي أطلق على نفسة تنظيم القاعدة في سيناء، وبالفعل تم التوصل لقائمة تضم حوالى 50 متهمًا منضمين لهذا التنظيم الذي يهدف لطرد الأمن المصري من سيناء وتحويلها لإمارة إسلامية؛ وتبين أن من بينهم عناصر فلسطينية تابعة لجيش الاسلام فى قطاع غزة
وبعد محاولات لفك لغز أعضاء التنظيم وأسمائهم، توصلت الأجهزة الأمنية، إلى قائد التنظيم الارهابي الجديد، والذي نصبته الجماعات المتطرفة أميرًا لها، ويُدعى علي أف (34 سنة)، من أبناء إحدى القبائل البدوية التي تقطن مدينتي رفح والشيخ زويد وسبق ضلوعه ومشاركته في تفجيرات سيناء السابقة واعتقل وهرب من سجن أبو زعبل بعد الثورة ويعتنق الفكر التكفيري المتطرف والمتشدد كما يعتنق الفكر الجهادي وتدرب مع العشرات من رفاقة بقطاع غزة على القتال والقفز من فوق النار واستخدام الآر بى جى وتدرب على كافة أنواع الأسلحة
وأوضحت مصادر أمنية بأن هذا التنظيم الارهابي كانت له أيادي في تفجيرات سيناء الأخيرة عام 2004، وبعد أن قضت الأجهزة الأمنية على هذا التنظيم خلال عام 2006 تبقيت منه فلول في سيناء أطلق عليها الخلايا الكامنة والتي اختبات داخل جحورها في مدينتى رفح والشيخ زويد لتعاود نشاطها من جديد بعد ثورة 25 يناير
وأضافت المصادر أن قادة التنظيم قاموا بتنفيذ أعمال عنف عديدة بعد الثورة في شمال سيناء منها استهداف وقتل أفراد شرطة، تفجير مقرات أمنية برفح والعريش، حادث الهجوم الشهر قبل الماضي على قوة من الشرطة كانت أمام بنك الإسكندرية بالعريش، وآخر ما قاموا به هو حصارهم لمقر قسم شرطة ثان العريش
